Martha + Alex

Martha and Alex are the type of couple that lights up the room and makes everyone feel special. We first met Martha when planning her sister’s wedding celebration, and were thrilled when she called me to say she was engaged!

When we started working together to plan their wedding, we identified their wedding goals: to celebrate their love, throw a great party for their friends and family, feature the best of Maryland, and have a charitable impact all at the same time. (Being charitable comes naturally to the couple - Martha is a Speech Language Pathologist at a nonprofit school, and chairs the committee for the St. Jude Walk/Run Baltimore.)

Booking the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as their venue was their first step - a decision that was the perfect waterfront location (perfect for Alex - an avid fisherman and boater) - and also financially supported CBF and its mission of protecting the Chesapeake Bay. With its decks overlooking the Bay, it also provided the perfect backdrop for their vision of a relaxed but sophisticated celebration.

To highlight Maryland’s cuisine, their reception menu featured Rockfish filets topped with crab, Eastern Shore Corn Salad, Ham and Buttermilk Biscuit hors d’oeuvres, a raw bar, and of course, mini crab cakes. The bar was stocked with beers from Union Craft Brewing, RAR Brewing, and of course, Natty Boh.

Martha and Alex lessened their environmental impact by using lanterns and signage from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s event inventory. At the end of the night, Petals for Hope picked up all of their centerpieces, which were then donated to residents at a nursing home.

The result was a wedding that felt warm, gracious, and loving from beginning to end. We are so honored to have been part of their celebration!
